Overnight visual correction using EyeDream lenses. No spectacles... No contact lenses... No surgery.

What is Ortho K?

Ortho K, previously known as Orthokeratology, is a highly innovative technique to reduce or eliminate short sightedness (myopia) by reshaping the cornea without the need for surgery.

Modern Ortho K methods involve wearing EyeDream rigid contact lenses while sleeping - overnight the cornea reshapes, improving vision. The lens is removed in the morning leaving you free from the need to wear spectacles or contact lenses during waking hours.

Ortho K is a particularly useful method of correcting eyesight for people who find daily contact lens wear intolerable and for anyone who finds spectacle or contact lens wear inconvenient or inappropriate.

Yates & Suddell has invested in this state-of-the-art technology at our Contact Lens Laboratory and has trained opticians (accredited practitioners) with the necessary skills to provide this new and exciting development in eyesight correction.

Why would Ortho K be a good option for me?

Ortho K provides good vision throughout the day without the need to wear spectacles or contact lenses. The procedure is non-surgical and non-invasive so is ideal for anyone concerned about the risks associated with surgical techniques.

The Ortho K procedure is very efficient with the majority of myopic correction occurring after the first night of lens wear and, unlike with most conventional rigid contact lenses, there is little or no adaptation period. Low levels of astigmatism can also be corrected and contact lens associated problems such as dryness, especially in dry or dusty environments, are eliminated.

The procedure is fully reversible and can be modified as required.

  • Provides good vision throughout the day without the need to wear spectacles or contact lenses.
  • Elimination of contact lens associated problems - eg. Dryness.
  • Non surgical, non invasive procedure - therefore it is suitable for those concerned about the risks associated with surgical techniques.
  • An efficient procedure - the majority of myopic correction occurs after the first night of lens wear.
  • Little to no adaptation period - unlike most conventional rigid contact lenses.
  • Procedure is reversible and can of course be modified as required.

Are there any disadvantages?

The treatment is not permanent and vision will revert to original levels if lens wear is discontinued. There can be some increase in visual aberrations in differing lighting conditions and visual acuity (clearness of vision) can reduce slightly during the day, particularly in the early stages of the treatment.

Is the procedure suitable for everybody?

At the moment, the procedure is only suitable for low to mid levels of myopic (short sighted) eyes. Research is continuing at a rapid rate and the expansion of suitable corrections can be expected in the near future - at present the range is up to minus 4.50 sphere with up to minus 1.50 cylinder.
