Why should I visit Yates & Suddell?

Do I have to pay for an eye test?

Click thislink to view the current NHS list of exempt categories. If you are not exempt the current cost of a private eye test at Y&S is £25, including FREE digital retinal photography.

How long does it take to have an eye test?

The test usually takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on the patient.

Do you accept prescriptions from other opticians?

Yes, provided it has not expired. Simply bring your prescription into your local Y&S store and one of our experienced dispensing opticians or optical advisors will be pleased to help. No appointment is necessary.

I would like to try contact lenses. How much do they cost?

At Y&S contact lens assessments are completely FREE OF CHARGE. Following the assessment we will be able to advise you as to which lenses are most suitable for you. Contact lenses start at 33p per day including cleaning solutions and aftercare.

I have an unusual prescription. Will contact lenses be suitable for me?

Almost certainly yes! Advancements in technology over the past few years mean that virtually anyone can wear contact lenses, regardless of how unusual their prescription is. This includes people with astigmatism and those who wear bifocals or varifocals.

Can you reglaze my existing spectacle frames?

Yes, provided the frame is in good enough condition. Bring your frame into us and one of our in store Optical Assistants will be able to advise you as to whether this is the case.

We accept payment through all of the major UK credit and debit cards: MasterCard, Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, AMEX and PayPal  (Payment is taken at the time of dispatch)

How do I Amend or Cancel an online order?

What Delivery Options are available?

  • All UK orders over £50 will be dispatched FREE via Standard 2nd Class Royal Mail

  • All UK Orders over £110 will be dispatched FREE via Standard 1st Class Royal Mail

  • Orders under the value of £50 will be charged an extra £2.99 for 2nd Class Royal Mail

  • Orders under the value of £110.00 can be upgraded for an extra £1.75 to 1st Class Royal Mail

  • Next Day Delivery - £8.95*

  • Next Day Saturday Delivery - £14.75*

*Please Note: If you have paid for next day delivery and the goods you have ordered are not in stock, we will advise you of this and give you the option to have the goods posted next day delivery as soon as they are available or refund you the payment made for next day delivery and allow you to select an alternative delivery method.

How long will does it take to dispatch my order?

Delivery time is normally2 - 3 working days for stock items.
3 - 5 working days for non–stock items
We will notify you if there is a longer delivery time.

Do you Deliver Abroad?

  • For orders to countries within the EU there will be a set delivery charge of £5.00*

  • For orders to counties outside the EU there will be a set delivery charge of £14.75*

How do I return an item?

We will issue a full refund to the value of the product (but not shipping costs) if you return any products for any reason ordered by you within 10 working days from the delivery date. All products must be returned undamaged in the original packaging provided. Contact lenses and eye care products must be returned unopened. Please note that payment is taken at the time of dispatch.

Do you need to contact my Opticians before supplying lenses?

If you have a valid contact lens prescription you can either email ( or fax (01706 829995) this to us.  Alternatively we can contact your opticians to obtain this.

Due to us being a UK Registered Opticians we do require a valid contact lens prescription before we can supply lenses
