PRESS RELEASE

ORTHO K

FIRST FOR BURY - WAKE UP WITH CLEAR VISION

There are around five million short sighted people in the UK.  Imagine one night these people went to bed with contact lenses, took them out the next morning and could see perfectly.

Li-san Heap is one of the five million short-sighted people living in Britain today.  Li-san aged 35, is married to Scott and they live together in Bury, Lancashire.

Working as a civil servant / office administrator for the court service (HMCS) Li-san can spend up to eight hours a day using her computer.

Li-san has been short sighted for over a decade and has a -4.50 dioptres of short-sightedness in her left eye and -3.75 in her right. To compensate, she wore both glasses and contact lenses everyday to help her see, until she discovered Ortho K vision therapy in January earlier this year.

“To be honest, I found wearing glasses inconvenient, says Li-san, “they restricted my vision and I found it difficult to play sport with them on.  I enjoy both swimming and playing squash, so you can understand how difficult this could be and it’s not comfortable to wear glasses when you are hot and sweaty.

“I wore contact lenses everyday, which was great, but if I wore them too long in the day, my eyes would get too dry and sore.  I also found contact lenses uncomfortable when it was windy and would often get grit in them, they would inconveniently pop out sometimes when I rubbed my eyes.

“My optician Nick Howard, Yates & Suddell, told me all about Ortho K, and said it could be a good option for me.  He was absolutely right.  After the first night of wearing the Ortho K lenses I was shocked at how well it had worked in just one night it was brilliant.  My eyes now feel so much healthier and it has changed my life.  I just pop my specially tailored lenses in at night, and take them out when I wake up and I can see throughout the day.  I have so many more options and no barriers getting in my way.

Admittedly, on the odd day my eyes are a bit blurry, but that’s because of the way I have slept that night. It does take time to get used to it but it is definitely worth it.  I’ve told all my colleagues about Ortho K and they are fascinated.”

Yates & Suddell, Bury is the only Optician in the town, one of 200 across the whole of the UK, to offer the overnight treatment that sees 70% of users with significantly restored vision after just eight hours.

By wearing the specially tailored contact lenses before sleep and leaving overnight the cornea cleverly reshapes, redistributing surface cells and improving vision. Satisfactory results can vary from a week to a month, depending on the individual vision.

Yates & Suddell, is offering free ‘Ortho K’ assessments. An eye-mapping instrument cleverly analyses and measures 11,000 separate points then provides individual data.  From this information the specially tailored contact lenses are made.

This analysis indicates how long the individual should wear them each night and over what period of time.  People choosing this state-of-the-art treatment are monitored regularly. For ease, each lens has been colour coded one lilac and one blue, to distinguish the left from the right.

Accredited practitioner, Nick Howard, Contact Lens Optician says; “I’ve worked in the profession for almost 30 years and this non surgical and non invasive treatment is by far the most exciting and innovative development in the contact lens arena.

“It is ideal for short sighted people who find wearing lenses on a daily basis intolerable.  Or, for people who wear spectacles inconvenient especially in certain situations like swimming, walking on the beach or playing rugby. It’s very satisfying and immense sense of achievement, I’ve seen people jump around the room for joy because it’s had such a major impact on their life, which is a great feeling.”
