Notes For Parents
Contact lenses can be successfully fitted to children of any
age, age is no longer a barrier. Kids are quick and keen to learn.
With support from an optician and time invested from an adult
they will soon be confident handling their lenses and be able
to wear them with ease. Deciding whether a child is mature enough
to take on the responsibility of wearing and caring for lenses
must be made by the parent or guardian and optician.
The benefits can be enormous, not just from a social and confidence
building point of view but from a visual quality perspective too.
In some cases your childs vision can be much better - more natural
with better binocular vision.
Cost can be a concern but be assured that contact lenses are
becoming more affordable than ever - they can cost as little as
30p a day. Your optician will advise you on the most suitable
lenses for your child’s prescription and discuss the different
options available to you.
The care of contact lenses has become much easier too.
Daily disposable lenses are thrown away at the end of the day,
so do not require any cleaning.
But even lenses which are worn for longer can be cleaned quickly
and easily.
